Richard AhYou, DMD

Dr. Richard AhYou was born in Hawaii and raised in Utah. He is the eldest of five children. In 1995, he and his wife Emily visited Oregon. They were impressed by the area’s beauty and the kindness of the people they encountered. A year later, they moved to the Portland area. In 1999, Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Portland State University. He proceeded to Oregon Health Science University, where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D) degree in 2004.

After his graduation from dental school, Dr. AhYou worked in public health at Northwest Human Services, then at Portland State University Center for Student Health. In 2007, Dr. AhYou learned there was a dental practice for sale in Oregon City. Dr. Edward Gibb was looking for the right candidate to take over the practice he built for over thirty years. Dr. AhYou was honored to be selected among several dentists interested in the practice. He was also fortunate to retain most of the staff members. Today Dr. AhYou and staff continue to serve many original patients, as well as new referrals of family and friends.

Dr. AhYou is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry. In order to stay on the cutting edge of his field, Dr. AhYou regularly attends numerous study clubs and continuing education courses, including membership in the prestigious Kois Center. In 2011, Dr. AhYou achieved a lifelong goal to travel to his father’s homeland of Samoa and perform humanitarian dentistry. He joined a team of dental professionals with Wide Open Humanitarian on an expedition to South Pacific Islands of Samoa. There the group provided dental services for many people, in several villages, on three islands. In 2012, Dr. AhYou returned to Samoa with his family and provided much needed dental care for extended family, their friends, and others. Dr. AhYou appreciates being able to give something back to the people of such a generous culture, and to learn more about his cultural heritage. Dr. AhYou has a passion for fishing, the outdoors, and mountain biking. He values and enjoys cultivating the relationships he has with his colleagues, patients, family, and friends.
